Expanded Clay: Lightweight, Durable and Versatile

Expanded clay is a lightweight aggregate created through a natural process. It begins with high-quality clay, which is moistened, granulated and then fired in rotary kilns at temperatures around 1100°C. During firing, the clay expands into round, porous balls that are exceptionally light yet mechanically strong - ideal for a wide range of construction, infrastructure and landscaping applications.

Expanded clay offers an unique combination of properties:

• High Load-Bearing Capacity: Despite their low weight, the spherical shape and internal structure provide excellent compressive strength, making them suitable for earthworks and load-distributing layers.
• Thermal and Acoustic Insulation: Expanded clay insulates both heat and sound. It also retains heat, contributing to energy efficiency in buildings and infrastructure.
• Moisture Regulation: Thanks to their porous structure, the granules help regulate moisture and provide natural ventilation - ideal for applications such as green roofs and drainage layers.
• UV and Frost Resistance: They protect roof membranes from temperature fluctuations, UV radiation and mechanical damage, ensuring long-lasting performance in extreme conditions.
• Fire Safety: Expanded clay has the highest fire classification (A1 – non-combustible) and adds a layer of passive fire protection to construction projects.
• Chemically Neutral and Rodent-Proof: Breathable and inert, expanded clay is safe for use with plants, potable water systems and organic environments. It also deters rodents due to its texture and structure.
• Easy to Handle: The lightweight nature and round shape make expanded clay simple to transport, spread, or mix into various construction materials.

Common Applications
• Lightweight concrete and screeds
• Backfill for retaining walls and bridge abutments
• Drainage layers for roofs, sports fields and roads
• Green roofs and roof gardens
• Hydroponic and horticultural uses
• Insulating fill in floors and walls
• Prefabricated building elements

Available Sizes:
5-10mm (400-450 kg/m3)
10-20mm (300-400 kg/m3)
20-40mm (300-400 kg/m3)
0-5mm (500-600kg/m3)
Other sizes (round and crushed) upon request.

Expanded clay is small in size but delivers big performance. It combines durability, thermal efficiency, sustainability and versatility in a single lightweight solution. Whether used in large-scale infrastructure or green construction, it remains one of the most reliable and popular lightweight building materials available today.

nawierzchnia mineralna
Water-bound surface

Water-bound surface is a water-permeable surface for roads and bicycle paths, made of ecological mineral aggregates. It is a mixture of natural stone aggregates of graded grain size and special binding gravel (Premix).

Water-bound surface is used as a topping layer in park avenues, historic trails and on squares, bike paths, sports fields and playgrounds, as well as on tree framings. The mineral mixture is selected in such a way that the surface is as little dusty and smearing as possible in various weather circumstances. The road surface is permeable to water, resistant to frost and stable even under extreme weather conditions. The high shear strength ensures that water-bound surface remains stable even during intensive use.

Patentweg - patent road - geotextile path that is gentle on roots

Areas of application:
1. fairs and exhibitions
2. temporary paths
3. improvement of facilities in green areas
4. scenography, film and television
5. places difficult to access
6. where roots are high
7. in places where the groundwater level is high

Patentweg consists of a specially developed geotextile with integrated flexible edges/tubes. The ease of application is characterized by the fact that no excavation or foundation is required. This means that projects can be completed quickly and in hard-to-reach areas.
Patentweg is particularly gentle on roots because it does not alter or damage existing soil. The geotextile element can be filled with, for example, water-bound surface, stone or cobblestones, crushed stone, gravel or wood chips. The patent path can be reused.

Advantages:
Easy to lay and dismantle
Reusable
Does not cause root damage because no digging is required
Economical and resource saving as no civil engineering work is required
Available in different widths such as: 1.0 m, 1.5 m, 2.0 m, 2.5 m, 3.0 m and special sizes

Stabilizer - organic psyllium binder for road surfaces

Application
The binder is used to stabilize the top layer of pedestrian and bicycle paths and to protect them from water erosion and dust.

Requirements for aggregate
The crushed stone must meet certain requirements before mixing, because the binder reacts only with the smallest particles of the pavement.

Production
The binder is obtained industrially by separating psyllium husks from seeds and milling them to the powder.

Properties and mixing ratio
Swells when in contact with water, shrinks when dry. As a rule, 6 kg of binder is added per ton of aggregate, depending on the slope of the pavement and the composition of the crushed stone.

Premix - cohesive gravel

Premix is a unique, special cohesive gravel and a permanent part of the water-bound surface product. It is produced from natural raw materials extracted from various quarries in Northern Germany.
Premix has excellent water-hydraulic properties and high bond strength. It can be mixed with local aggregates and then laid as a top layer. This saves transportation costs because existing aggregates in the near surroundings of the construction site can be used for mixing. However, these local aggregates should be tested in advance in our laboratory, as not every crushed stone is suitable for an optimal mix. Once the laboratory has approved the aggregate, the exact recipe and mixing ratios can be calculated.
The premix has a high maximum bulk density and a grain size of 0-8mm.
